Introduction

What is Lions Family Benefit Scheme?

It is scheme to support the lion families financially by the Lions of the District in the event of a death of lion member who is a scheme member. It is also a demonstraƟon of love and care to the bereaved families of a scheme member by the other members of the scheme.

Who is administering the Lions Family Benefit Scheme?

The scheme is administered by the Board of Trustees of Lions Family Benefit Trust, registered under the Indian Trust Act 1982.

Who is the member of Lions Family Benefit Trust?

Every lion member who joins the Lions Family Benefit Scheme are the members of the Trust.

How the Board of Trustees of Lions Family Benefit Trust is composed of?

As per the Lions Family Benefit Trust Deed, the Board of Trustees consists of 29 elected members from out of the members of the Trust. Apart from the ruling DG Team, IPDG, DCS and DCT whose term is for a period of one year, the Board of Trustees consists of 15 elected members (6 PDGs and 9 scheme members) from out of the members of the Trust for three years and 8 nominated Trustees (3 ruling RCs and 5 ruling ZCs) by the District Governor for one year.

Who can be a Trustee in the Board of Trustees?

Only a member of the Trust who has completed one year of scheme membership and member in good standing of a lion’s cub in good standing for at least one year and who has no dues payable to the Trust, as on date of filing of nominaƟon paper is eligible to become a Trustee of the Board of Trustee of the Trust.

Can a DG or VDG or DCS or DCT can automaƟcally become a Trustee because of his official position?

No. DG, VDG, DCS or DCT or other nominated members can be a trustee only if they comply with the condiƟons menƟoned in para 6 as above.

Is the LFBS Scheme applicable to every lion member of District 318C?

Lions Family Benefit Scheme is applicable only to the lion members who joined in the Lions Family Benefit Scheme.

What are the situations in which a member will cease to be a member of the Trust?

A member of LFBS will cease to be a member if he becomes bankrupt, insane or otherwise legally incapacitated, if he resigns the Trust membership, if he loses membership in a Lions Club or if he makes default in payment of annual dues on the due date fixed. On loosing membership in LFBS, he/she will not be eligible for any benefits of Scheme or refund of any amount paid by him to the LFBS.

Can a member who opted out of the scheme rejoin the Scheme?

If any member at any Ɵme for any reason ceases to be a member of Lions Clubs InternaƟonal, his membership shall cease automaƟcally but if such member if reinstated within 6 months to the Lions Clubs InternaƟonal, he can get his membership of Trust revived on payment of an extra amount as applicable at that time and arrears on demand, if any.

Is this Scheme similar to an insurance scheme and whether any approval from government or RBI or any authority is required?

Lions Family Benefit Scheme is not an insurance scheme. This scheme is designed by the Lions of District 318C for the family members of the lion members of the district who join the scheme. The Scheme do not require any formal approval from Government of RBI. However, the Scheme will be complying with all the applicable laws of the NaƟon.

Is it mandatory that to become a member of the Scheme and conƟnue as a member, one should be a lion of any club in District 318C?

Yes, to become a member of the Scheme, a lion member should be a member of any lion’s club of Lions District 318C. However, in the event the lion member, who is a scheme member, moves out of the club in District 318C and joins and conƟnue his membership as a member of a club in any Lions District outside District 318C, he can conƟnue the membership in the scheme and avail all the benefits of the Scheme. However, before moving to another club in another District, the member will have to inƟmate the Trust of his intenƟon to conƟnue as a member of the scheme and get the wriƩen approval.

Can a scheme member change the nominees reported?

Yes, the scheme member can change the nominees reported at any Ɵme during his/her life Ɵme by wriƟng to the Board of Trustees in proforma for change of nominee.

Membership

Who can join the Lions Family Benefit Scheme?

Only good standing lion members of a Lions Club in District 318C is eligible to join the scheme as a member.

How can one join as a Scheme Member?

Any good standing lion of District 318C can apply for the scheme by remiƫng applicable one- Ɵme membership deposit and annual yearly subscripƟon, along with duly filled applicaƟon cum nominaƟon form. Once the applicaƟon and remiƩance are received, it will be scruƟnized and if approved, a membership cerƟficate will be issued to the member. His membership starts from the date of issuance of the membership certificate.

Is there any restriction on membership in the Scheme?

Till 31-12-2023, any good standing lion member of District 318C, without any age restricƟon can join the scheme, subject to certain condiƟons. But after 31-12-2023, only lion members between the ages 18-65 will be eligible to join the Scheme.

What are the different Types of Scheme Membership, Benefits & obligations?

There are three types of membership in Lions Family Benefit Scheme.


  • a. Founder Membership

    Every lion member who joins the scheme on or before 31st December 2023 shall be known as Founder Members. There are three different categories of Founder Members depending on their ages

    Category 1
    The are eligible for all the benefits of the scheme without any restricƟons. Their nominees will get fraternity benefit @ 500 Ɵmes of net membership and they have to contribute @ 500 each on the death of every scheme member.

    Category 2
    Members with ages 75-85 and having a minimum 20 years standing in lionism at the Ɵme of applicaƟon. These category members will be subjected to one year lock in period. They will have to contribute @ Rs.500 each on every death of a scheme member. But their nominees will be eligible for fraternity benefit @ 250 Ɵmes of net membership as on death.

    Category 3
    Members with ages above 85 and having a minimum 20 years standing in lionism at the Ɵme of applicaƟon. These category members will be subjected to one year lock in period. They will have to contribute @ Rs.500 each on every death of a scheme member. But their nominees will be eligible for fraternity benefit @ 150 Ɵmes of net membership as on death.

  • b. Ordinary membership

    Lion members between the ages of 18-65 who join the scheme on or aŌer 1st January 2024 will be called Ordinary Members. Ordinary Members will be subjected to one year lock in period from the date of their enrollment as scheme member. They will have to make a fraternity contribuƟon of Rs.500/- on the death of every scheme member. And their nominees will be eligible for a fraternity benefit @ 500 Ɵmes of net membership as on the date of death.

  • c. Honorary Membership

    A scheme member who completed 25 years of scheme membership will be known as Honorary Member. A Honorary Member will be eligible for the fraternity benefit of the Scheme without making any fraternity contribuƟon. However, he will have to contribute annual subscripƟon charges at the applicable rate.

Is payment of one-time membership deposit and annual subscription alone will make a lion member eligible to get the benefits of the Scheme?

A scheme member will be eligible to get the benefits only from the date of issuance of membership certificate. Payment of onetime membership deposit and annual subscripƟon is only one part of the procedure. The membership cerƟficate will be issued only when the member submits the duly filled application cum nominaƟon form along with the required aƩachments and his application is verified and accepted.

Is a member expected to conntinue as a lion member till his death to get benefits to nominee?

Yes, to avail the benefits of LFBS, the member is expected to continue as a lion member Ɵll his death.
